Mandy Moore seeking spousal and pet support from Ryan Adams

Tennessee residents may have heard about the ongoing divorce case between musicians Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams. Mr. Adams filed the divorce petition on Jan. 23, 2015, but the couple has been unable to reach an agreement due to their pets.

According to court documents filed by Ms. Moore, she is seeking $37,000 per month from Mr. Adams in total support. The couple has two dogs and six cats, and Ms. Moore has been taking care of all of them. Mr. Adams had agreed to take two of the cats, but Ms. Moore wants him to take four pets in total.

She is additionally seeking spousal support from Mr. Adams. She claims that he earns $151,000 per month while her own income is approximately 25 percent of that amount. In the initial divorce paperwork, Mr. Adams listed the couple's separation date as Aug. 4, 2014. Friends of the couple report that their 10-year age difference and personality differences led to the demise of their marriage. The couple married in 2009 after a four-week engagement. The couple does not have any children.

When there is a significant difference in income between divorcing spouses, the court may order that the higher-earning spouse pay the lower-earning one monthly spousal support payments. Alimony may be ordered for a limited time or on an indefinite basis. Courts determine whether to order alimony and if so, how long it will be paid based on a number of different factors. People who believe alimony may be at issue in their own divorce matters may want to speak with a family law attorney in order to determine how best to proceed.
