Custody dispute resolved in favor of Chris Brown

Tennessee residents may know that the hip-hop singer, songwriter and performer Chris Brown has had his fair share of legal problems. The 27-year-old rapper was ordered to perform community service and was sentenced to five years of probation after pleading guilty to domestic violence charges in 2009, but Brown had a better day in court on Aug. 12 when a family law judge ruled in his favor after hearing arguments made by the mother of his 2-year-old daughter in a contentious child custody dispute.

Reaching child support agreements

Child support is one of the big issues that will need to be settled in many Tennessee divorces. Parents may handle this in one of three ways. They can resolve the matter between themselves through informal negotiations. Alternative dispute resolution procedures such as mediation may also be used to reach child support agreements. Finally, people can choose to have the judge determine the amount according to the state's statutory guidelines.

Whether or not to stay in the house following a divorce

Property division is often a significant issue in Tennessee divorces, and major decisions regarding what to do with the family home often are big factors. It is common for a spouse to have an emotional attachment to the marital home, but he or she might want to think seriously about whether or not it is wise to remain in it.
