Resolving parenting conflicts after divorce

Many divorced parents in Tennessee run into constant conflicts with their exes. These conflicts may not be significant enough to take to court as a judge won't have much sympathy for a parent who goes to court to argue about petty differences. However, the relationship with the other parent may have deteriorated to the point where discussing the issue is also unsuccessful.

One option may be to visit a co-parenting counselor. This is a professional who offers a therapeutic environment in which parents can work through their issues. The counselor may develop conflict resolution techniques that the exes can use to resolve disputes. Another option is to try mediation. With mediation, a professional helps parents come to a compromise. If the mediation is done with an attorney, the agreement can be made legally binding.

Another option involving attorneys is collaborative law. This involves the parents agreeing to avoid litigation and work with collaborative attorneys. They might hire additional professionals, such as a child specialist, in order to reach a resolution.

In order to avoid major disagreements, divorcing parents may decide to set up a parenting agreement. A parenting agreement might include details such as who is responsible for taking children to various activities, when children can meet with friends and who attends teacher conferences. In order to allow for changes as the children get older, parents might also want to build flexibility into the parenting agreement. A family law attorney could help a former couple throughout the conflict resolution process.
