Judge reduces child support order for Amanda Stanton's ex

Tennessee residents who are fans of the reality television show 'Bachelor in Paradise" may be familiar with Amanda Stanton and Josh Murray. The fiancés earn about $23,000 per month combined thanks to their television appearances, blogs and social media posts. Now, a court has ruled that Stanton's ex-husband and father of her two daughters will no longer have to pay her $2,000 per month in child support.

Stanton's ex-husband Nick Buonfiglio filed a petition to modify the original child support order, and the court agreed to reduce the order by nearly 75 percent. Buonfiglio told the court that Stanton now earns more than the $100 per year that she earned at the time of their 2015 divorce. Court documents show that Stanton reported earnings of $13,000 per month from her social media posts and fashion blog.

Stanton and Buonfiglio had a contentious divorce, and Stanton talked about some of the issues that led to the divorce while she was filming The Bachelor. Stanton said that Buonfiglio had cheated on her during their marriage, and she accused Buonfiglio of leaving all of the parenting responsibilities to her. Buonfiglio has criticized Stanton for seeking media attention, saying that his daughters are being harmed by it.

A parent who is paying child support may want to petition the court for a child support modification if they learn that the custodial parent's income has significantly increased. A judge may agree to lower child support payments after reassessing each parent's current income. If noncustodial parents lose their job or suffer another kind of financial setback, a judge may modify the child support order based on the change in their income.
