Stevie J may owe $1 million in back child support

Tennessee residents who are fans of musician and 'Love & Hip Hop Atlanta" star Stevie J may be interested to learn about his recent child support dispute. Stevie J was taken into police custody during the summer of 2014 for allegedly failing to pay $1,107,412 in back child support. In 2001, Stevie allegedly stopped making the $8,500 per month child support payments for the two kids that he has with his former girlfriend. There are now new reports that the rapper is back in court for missing payments.

While the child support case has been ongoing, Stevie has also had other legal issues involving his alleged drug use. After Stevie was indicted by a grand jury in January 2015, he tested positive for cocaine and marijuana use. The court ordered Stevie to check into a drug treatment center.

Although Stevie has reportedly stopped using drugs since his indictment, a judge recently ordered Stevie to comply with a monitored curfew. Stevie is required to wear a GPS monitor that tracks his location 24 hours a day. If Stevie wants to travel while wearing the monitor, he must obtain approval. Overseas travel is not permitted while Stevie is wearing the monitor.

When a parent is going through a divorce, allegations of drug use could complicate child custody and support negotiations. A parent who has been accused of using illegal drugs by their child's other parent may want to have representation from a family law attorney. A lawyer may be able to help a client dispute the validity of the other parent's claims.
