Upcoming modifications to child support site and form

Parents in Tennessee who receive or pay child support should be aware of changes to the online federal portal used by employers to process withholding orders. They should also know of the upcoming changes with the official income-withholding form.

A manager of the Office of Child Support Enforcement stated that the last time the income-withholding form was updated was in 2014. It has to be renewed before its expiration date of July 31, 2017.

Included in the suggested changes are text revisions that specify the withholding limit of the Consumer Credit Protection Act and that clarify that the One-Time Order or Notice for Lump Sum Payment is issued after a notification of the future lump-sum payment from an employer. Additional modifications include more links, a statement regarding encryption requirements and more fields. Once the withholding from has been renewed, the OCSE intends to create a team that will amend the form and determine whether it can be shorter.

The child support portal on the agency's website has already been modified. The landing page was improved on March 15, 2017, for better use by employers and other users. Employers are now able to provide information updates in a new space, and a box for multi-state employers was added to the employer-services portion of the portal. Employers are able to update their information, including the addresses for mailing documents, email addresses, fax numbers and names. They are also able to certify certain information and add subsidiaries.

Parents who have child support issues that need to be addressed should speak with a family law attorney before making any decisions. For custodial parents who are seeking what they are rightfully owed, an attorney can suggest various enforcement mechanisms that might be available.
